Justine Sasanfar, PhD
Assistant Professor of Piano Pedagogy and Class Piano
Pianist Justine Sasanfar is Assistant Professor of Piano Pedagogy at Wichita State University where she coordinates the piano pedagogy and class piano programs. Passionate about growing each student’s relationship with music through empowering learning, authentic connection, and experiences that stimulate, engage, and inspire, Dr. Sasanfar has taught students of all ages and abilities in private and group settings and is in demand as a clinician at local and regional festivals. She has presented at the GP3 Group Piano/Piano Pedagogy Forum, the Music Teachers National Association Conference and local chapter meetings, the Desert Skies Symposium, and the National Association for Music Education National Conference, and has publications in the Journal of Research in Music Education and American Music Teacher. In collaboration with her husband, Michael Hanawalt, she has published choral arrangements with Boosey & Hawkes and Colla Voce. Dr. Sasanfar is a frequent collaborator with vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs. She completed a PhD in Music Education-Piano Pedagogy from The Florida State University, MM degrees in Piano Pedagogy and Collaborative Piano at Michigan State University, and a BM in Piano Performance from St. Olaf College.
